2008 TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:

DAY TWO :  WEST SEATTLE GOLF COURSE

Jackson Park July 2nd - 6247 Par 71
West Seattle July 3rd – 6725 Par 72
Jefferson Park July 4th – 6162 Par 70

Round two at West Seattle Golf Course was hit hard by severe weather during the 74th Seattle Amateur Championship. The players were greeted by thunderstorms in the early AM which forced us to push back tee times one hour. After 2 ½ hours of play the lightning required us to suspend play again for 1 hour and 15 minutes. The consensus from the players during the weather delay was to get back out onto the course. The committee made the decision to give it one more chance but warned the players if we had to halt play one more time that the round would be cancelled and the event would have to be shortened to 36 holes.

The weather cooperated and we were able to complete round two by starting all of the players in the afternoon crossover at 3:30 in a Shotgun Format. We were quite pleased to be able to complete round two but the logistics of the final round were thrust upon us. The committee was not confident that we could complete the tee times / pairings and notify the players before 10pm so in an effort to give as much notification we decided to get creative. The lowest nine 36-hole scores will play between 9:30 – 9:50 am off hole #1. The remaining players who survive the cut (low 54) will all start play at 7:30 in a shotgun format. By using this method, we are confident that there will be no confusion with starting times. ALL PLAYERS NOT IN THE TOP 9 WHO MAKE THE CUT WILL TEE OFF AT 7:30 AM.

After your round, we would like to encourage all of the players in the shotgun portion of the event to head back onto the course and to support the leaders and follow them home. They should have approximately 6 holes remaining before we see who is crowned the 2008 Seattle Amateur Champion.

All players shooting a 2-day total of 152 or lower made the cut. Those players shooting 143 or better will tee off between 9:30-9:50. The players who shot 144-152 will start their rounds at precisely 7:30.

Defending champion Richard Lee loves to lead! He will attempt to go wire-to-wire and finds himself 2 shots clear of the field at 5 under par 138.
Kevin Penner trails Lee by two and will try to put pressure on the leader as he is paired with him for the final day’s play.
Sam Loughery and Tyler Mathews had the low round of the day shooting 3 under par 69.
Dave Farnam, eight time champion finds himself 8 shots back but if there is anyone who can make up ground in the Seattle Amateur it is Dave Farnam.

We were so happy to complete round two because the decision to change the rotation and insert West Seattle into the second day was simply made with the thought that we wanted the entire field to see the “crown jewel” of Seattle golf. The decision nearly backfired with the threat of canceling the round in the morning but we were fortunate to not only finish the round but also show 160 of the best players in the Northwest the scenic and challenging West Seattle Golf Course.
